To inform the Global Study's findings and recommendations, a series of consultations and country visits were held around the globe. These consultations provided an opportunity for Radhika Coomaraswamy, lead author of the Global Study, to have a dialogue regarding progress and challenges to the implementation of resolution 1325 and the women, peace and security agenda. Discussions were also held with member states and civil society representatives, as well as academia, policy makers, senior UN leadership, and most importantly, those who have been directly impacted by conflict.
The consultation was convened jointly by UN Women, Saathi, and the Asia-Pacific Women's Alliance for Peace and Security (APWAPS), in cooperation with the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP) and Cordaid. A national consultation for civil society was held on 28 and 29 April, 2015, in San Salvador City, El Salvador. Organized by the Feminist Collective for Local Development, the Prudencia Ayala Feminist Coalition, and Project Counseling Services, the participants included Luz Mendez, a member of the High Level Advisory Group for the Global Study, as well as female ex-combatants, members of local women’s organizations, and members of national feminist alliances.

A national consultation of Guatemalan civil society was held 15 and 16 April 2015, in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The event was convened by civil society organizations Breaking Silence and Impunity and Project Counseling Services. Luz Mendez, a member of the High Level Advisory Group for the Global Study, participated in the consultation, along with 51 women from 22 organizations.
The consultation on the implementation of resolution 1325 in Chiapas, Mexico was held on 22-23 April 2015. It was organized by the civil society organizations Centro de Derechos de las Mujeres de Chiapas, Formación y Capacitación, Project Counselling Services as well as by Luz Méndez, a member of the High-level Advisory Group of the Global Study on resolution 1325. The consultation gathered 27 people representing 12 women’s organizations.
A regional consultation for Africa was held on 23 January 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and was built into the four-day African Union Stakeholders’ Consultation on the 2015 AU Theme: “Year of Women’s Empowerment and Development Towards Africa’s Agenda 2053”.
