October 2015 marked the 15th anniversary of landmark UN Security Council resolution 1325 (2000) on women, peace and security. The anniversary was commemorated with a special session of the Security Council to conduct a High Level Review on the women, peace and security agenda. The session culminated in the unanimous passing of UNSC resolution 2242 (2015), which reaffirms the international community's commitment to the women, peace and security agenda.

The Global Study on 1325 was officially launched at a luncheon and donor conference, featuring remarks from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, independent lead author Radhika Coomaraswamy, members of the Study's High-level Advisory Group, UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Nobel laureate Leymah Gbowee, representatives of international civil society, and Member States.
